The story of Lilith has been told, rewritten and reformed over thousands of years. She shape shifts from a goddess, demon, ghosts of virgin girls, to the first wife of Adam and a feminist icon.
Her story starts in ancient Mesopotamia where people would try to protect themselves and their babies from her demon claws by writing charms in incantation bowls. Lilith is blamed for night omissions and sinful sexual desires.
In the Epics of Giglamesh Lilith is a tree spirit that is banished from her home by the Goddess Inana and Giglamesh. In the Alphabet of Ben-Sira, Lilith is written as the first wife of Adam. She refuses to be subservient to him and flees the garden of Eden. She chooses her freedom and a life of exile over the cozy yet inequitable comforts of the Garden of Eden.
In this episode I go over all of these stories as well as Lilith's meaning in astrology and in a birth chart.
This is a humorous and at times raunchy episode where we explore themes of marginalization, sexuality and story telling in a patriarchal society.
